Health Canada Warns Against Banned Relight Candles Sold on Etsy

Health Canada Issues Advisory on Banned Relight Candles Sold on Etsy

Health Canada has issued a warning about relight candles sold on Etsy, citing their potential fire hazard.

In an advisory released Monday, the agency stated that relight candles are banned in Canada due to the risk of spontaneous ignition after disposal, which could lead to fires.

The affected product, “Magic Re-lighting Candles” (10-piece pack), has been removed from Etsy, and Health Canada has contacted the foreign third-party seller, according to the advisory.

Etsy.ca reported that five units of the product had been sold in Canada. However, Health Canada confirmed that no incidents or injuries related to the candles have been reported.

Consumers are urged to stop using the candles immediately and dispose of them in accordance with municipal hazardous waste guidelines.

Health Canada also encourages consumers to report any health or safety concerns related to these products using its incident reporting form.
