Lay’s Classic Potato Chips Recall Escalated to Highest Alert Level

Lay’s Classic Potato Chips Recall Upgraded to Highest Alert Level

Consumers are urged to check their pantries as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has elevated a recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips to its most serious classification.

Initially issued in December, the recall affects a limited number of 13-ounce (368.5g) bags due to the presence of undeclared milk ingredients, posing a risk for individuals with milk allergies or severe sensitivities. The affected chips were distributed to retail stores and online sellers in Oregon and Washington.

The recalled bags are described as “flexible” with a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of 11 FEB 2025 and manufacturing codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx. The UPC code is 28400 31041. Approximately 6,000 bags, which may have been purchased as early as November 3, 2024, are subject to recall.

Although Lay’s states that no other products, flavors, or variety packs are affected, the FDA escalated the recall to a Class I hazard level on January 27. This classification indicates a reasonable probability that consuming the product could lead to serious health consequences or even death.

So far, no allergic reactions have been reported, but consumers with milk allergies should avoid eating the recalled chips. Anyone with affected products or concerns can contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations at 1-800-352-4477 for assistance.
