Carroll Baker Returns to Thunder Bay on Farewell Tour

Carroll Baker, the renowned Canadian country music singer who began her recording career in Thunder Bay, has announced her final national tour, scheduled for next spring. Her farewell tour will include a special performance at Thunder Bay’s Community Auditorium on April 12.

Baker’s career spans an impressive 55 years. Born in Nova Scotia in 1949, she moved to Oakville, Ontario, with her family at age 16. Soon after, she began singing with a local band on weekends, which set the stage for her future in music.

In 1970, she traveled to Thunder Bay, where she connected with local music producers Don Grashey and Chuck Williams. Her debut single, Memories of Home, produced at Grashey’s DMG Sound Studios on Cumberland Street, stayed on the country charts for 26 weeks. Baker went on to record numerous hits, including Ten Little Fingers and the Alcoholics Anonymous anthem One Drink Is One Too Many (And a Thousand’s Not Enough).

With over 20 number-one hits, 14 albums, four compilations, and 55 singles to her name, Baker’s influence in Canadian country music is remarkable. Between 1970 and 1982, she released 31 consecutive charting singles, won five Juno Awards, and hosted her own CBC Television show, The Carroll Baker Jamboree.

In recognition of her contributions, Baker was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982 and appointed to the Order of Canada in 2009.

Her upcoming tour marks the end of a celebrated career and offers fans a final chance to see the iconic singer live.
