Canadian Journalist, Author, and Philanthropist Passes Away at 80″

Stevie Cameron, a distinguished Canadian journalist, author, and philanthropist, has passed away at the age of 80. Cameron’s family informed CBC News that she died at her Toronto home on Saturday.

Born in Belleville, Ontario, Cameron launched her journalism career in the mid-1970s, which spanned several decades until the early 2000s. During her career, she contributed as a columnist, editor, or reporter at many of Canada’s leading news organizations, including The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the Ottawa Citizen, and Maclean’s. She also hosted CBC’s The Fifth Estate in the early 1990s.

Cameron authored several books, covering topics ranging from the crimes of serial killer Robert Pickton to the scandals surrounding former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.

Her philanthropic efforts were primarily focused on supporting the homeless and others in need. In 2013, she was appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of her significant contributions to journalism and her volunteer work on behalf of the disadvantaged.

Cameron is survived by her husband, David, and her daughters, Amy and Tassie. Her family announced that a funeral service will be held on September 8 at St. Andrew’s Church in downtown Toronto, where she helped establish an Out of the Cold program in 1991.
