Thunder Bay Issues Air Quality Alert Due to Wildfire Smoke

Western Canada and the North are anticipated to encounter an increased wildfire risk in June. Despite British Columbia and Alberta benefiting from favorable spring conditions resulting in fewer wildfires and evacuation.

According to Environment Canada, smoke from wildfires in the Prairie provinces has triggered an air quality alert for Thunder Bay.

The government weather service reported that the smoke has caused poor air quality and reduced visibility in Thunder Bay.

Improvement in conditions is anticipated by Sunday evening.

Environment Canada cautions that wildfire smoke poses health risks to all individuals, even at low concentrations, and advises the public to take appropriate precautions, particularly those with lung disease, the elderly, children, pregnant individuals, and outdoor workers.
