Quaker initiates recall of granola bars and cereals due to potential salmonella risk.

Quaker Canada issues a voluntary recall for 38 types of granola bars and Harvest Crunch cereals over potential salmonella exposure.

The decision to recall follows a similar initiative by the Quaker Oats Company in the United States on Thursday.

“This action is being taken in Canada out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the wellbeing of our Canadian consumers,” Quaker Canada said in a release.

The company mentioned that the distributed products subject to the recall are spread across Canada.

Consumers are advised to inspect their pantries for any listed products and safely discard them. Quaker Canada emphasizes the importance of refraining from consuming the recalled items.

The company is actively collaborating with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to facilitate the prompt removal of the recalled products from the marketplace.

In a distinct statement, the Canadian government highlighted that food contaminated with salmonella might not exhibit visible signs of spoilage or unusual odors, yet it can still pose health risks.

Individuals in good health may encounter brief symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea due to salmonella exposure. Long-term complications may involve the development of severe arthritis.

Quaker Oats, the U.S. parent company owned by PepsiCo, initially declared a product recall on December 15, 2023. The recent announcement on Thursday represents an extension of that recall, as confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on its website.
