Product Recall Alert: Health and Safety Concerns Prompt Removal of Items at Major Retailers in Canada
Numerous products at prominent retailers across Canada are being withdrawn from shelves, following warnings from Health Canada and Transport Canada about health and safety risks.
One of the recalls involves specific Christmas hats retailed by Giant Tiger. The Baby Christmas Hat with Pom Pom has been removed from sale.
Designed for children aged 0-6 months, the hat is made of solid red polyester fleece with a cream-colored sherpa trim and pom pom, as described in Health Canada’s recall notice.
The product, identifiable by Model Number B3057-2 and UPC 7-73299-33057-7, poses a choking hazard due to the pom pom not being securely attached to the hats. It may fall off or be removed during repeated washing, according to the warning.
As of December 4, there have been no reported incidents or injuries in Canada related to these products.
The company disclosed that 1,980 units of the affected products were sold in Canada during the autumn season.
Another product recall pertains to specific tires retailed at Canadian Tire.
Certain variants of Continental Tire tires have been removed from Canadian Tire shelves, as indicated by Transport Canada.
The affected models include:
- 2023 CONTINENTAL CROSSCONTACT, Model LX25 225/65R17
- 2023 CONTINENTAL CROSSCONTACT, Model LX25 235/55R18
According to Transport Canada’s recall advisory, some of these tires may have a rubber compound contaminated with small metal fragments. This contamination could lead to sidewall failure, resulting in a sudden loss of air pressure and, consequently, a potential loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Registered owners will be notified by Continental Tire via mail. However, individuals with tires bearing these date codes or those requiring assistance with inspection are advised to contact a Continental Tire dealer.
A separate recall concerns specific tablets available at Walmart’s Canadian stores.
The Apo-Acyclovir Tablets have been removed from sale due to contamination, surpassing the concentration limit for N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), as indicated in Health Canada’s recall advisory.
Health Canada advises individuals to continue their medication regimen unless specifically instructed otherwise by their healthcare provider. The agency emphasizes that there is no need to return the medication to the pharmacy, as untreated conditions may pose a greater health risk.

The Eccles Step Stool, which is height adjustable, is subject to this recall. Identified by a UPC of 752771822557 and Wayfair model # w005218634, the step stool is constructed from bamboo and is available in white, brown, and wood tones, as specified in the recall notice.
According to Health Canada’s warning, the platform board of the step stool may develop cracks during use, presenting a potential fall hazard.
As of May 10, the company has reported one incident in Canada, resulting in one injury. A total of 127 units of this stool were sold between April 2021 and March 2023.
