Tens of thousands of people were left without electricity Wednesday evening after a powerful storm swept across Toronto and southern Ontario.
Toronto Hydro said about 65,000 customers lost power as strong winds and hail caused widespread damage. Crews are responding across the city, but repairs could take time due to the scale of the storm.
Hydro One reported more than 60,000 outages, mainly in the Guelph, Woodstock, South Huron and Norfolk County areas. Enova Power also said over 17,000 customers in Kitchener and Waterloo were affected by high winds.
Officials are reminding people to stay at least 10 metres away from any downed power lines.
