Several food recalls were issued across Canada in September.
The recalls affected foods including chicken, frozen fruit, nuts, sandwiches, ice cream and pesto. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the products were recalled for reasons including undeclared allergens, possible Listeria monocytogenes and norovirus contamination, and pieces of foreign material.
Some of the recalled products were sold at major grocery stores, including Costco, Co-op and No Frills.
Here are some of the food recalls Canadians should know about.
So Delicious Dairy Free frozen dessert
A 500 mL package of So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel non-dairy frozen dessert was recalled because it may contain plastic-like and gravel-like pieces.
The product was sold across Canada. The recall applies to certain packages with best-before dates from September 2027 to March 2028.
Sandwiches
Several Fresh & Local and Fresh Bites sandwiches sold in Alberta were recalled because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled products include ham and cheese subs, turkey sandwiches, croissant packs and other deli sandwiches.
Consumers should check the CFIA recall notice for the full list of products, UPCs and best-before dates.
Heinz mayonnaise
Some Heinz mayonnaise products were recalled because mustard was not listed on the label.
The affected mayonnaise was distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions in several provinces, including Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.
Alasko frozen raspberries
Alasko frozen whole raspberries were recalled over possible norovirus contamination.
The products were sold in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The recall affects certain one-kilogram packages and five-kilogram cases with lot number SY25314 and a best-before date of Nov. 10, 2027.
No Name chopped walnuts
Certain No Name chopped walnuts were recalled because they may contain pieces of walnut shell.
The affected products were sold at Loblaw-owned stores, including No Frills, in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Co-op Gold frozen chicken
Some Co-op Gold frozen chicken products were recalled because they contain egg that was not declared on the label.
The affected products include chicken burgers and maple and brown sugar bacon-wrapped chicken bites. They were sold at Co-op stores in several provinces and territories.
Rossdown Farms chicken
Some Rossdown Farms & Natural Foods meal starter products were recalled because they contain soy that was not declared on the label.
The products were sold across Canada, including at Costco. Customers who bought the affected 840-gram chicken product at Costco can return it for a full refund.
Cucina d’Oro pesto
Certain Cucina d’Oro pesto products were recalled because cashews were not properly declared on the label.
The affected products were sold in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.
Consumers should check their fridges, freezers and pantries for recalled products and follow the CFIA’s instructions if they have one.
