U.S. House passes $1.15 trillion defence bill with expanded Israel cooperation
The U.S. House of Representatives has narrowly approved a $1.15 trillion military spending bill, despite opposition from Democrats over the cost and increased military cooperation with Israel.
The 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed Wednesday by a vote of 216-212, with most lawmakers voting along party lines. The bill would increase U.S. defence spending as President Donald Trump pushes to expand the military budget.
The legislation includes a measure to strengthen military technology partnerships with Israel, which has drawn criticism from some lawmakers. Republican Representative Thomas Massie called the provision a threat to U.S. sovereignty.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where it faces opposition over its high cost, funding for the war in Iran, and other measures, including aid for Ukraine and new voting rules.
