Canada Post says nearly 485,000 more addresses will lose door-to-door mail delivery next year as they switch to community mailboxes in 2027.
The move affects 37 communities and comes on top of 136,000 addresses already announced in April. Most of the changes are in Ontario and Quebec, including parts of the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Trois-Rivières.
Other affected areas include communities in British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Alberta, including major cities like Halifax, Calgary, and Edmonton.
Canada Post says it plans to eventually move all remaining door-to-door delivery—about four million addresses—to community mailboxes over the next five years. It estimates the change will save about $400 million a year once fully completed.
The company says the shift is part of efforts to modernize its service and reduce costs as it continues to face major financial losses. It reported a $1.57 billion pre-tax loss in 2025 and relies on federal loans to stay operating.
Canada Post says most Canadians already use community mailboxes, and it will offer accommodations for people who have difficulty accessing them, including limited home delivery in some cases.
