THUNDER BAY – City council has approved a new plan to redevelop the Pool 6 waterfront area.
The project could include housing, hotels, businesses and public green space. Council voted unanimously in favour of the plan at Tuesday’s meeting.
Some councillors raised concerns about transportation and parking. Coun. Trevor Giertuga pushed for the Sleeping Giant Parkway extension to be included in the project timeline. The road would give drivers a second access point to the Pool 6 area and is expected to be designed by 2028.
City staff said more studies still need to be completed before developers are chosen. These studies include environmental reviews and checks on railway noise and vibrations nearby.
Officials also said underground parking could be part of future development plans.
