The federal government announced new rules Wednesday to better protect people using immigration and citizenship consultants in Canada.
The changes are meant to crack down on fraud and improve trust in the system after several reports of scams involving licensed consultants. Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab said people coming to Canada deserve honest and reliable advice.
Starting in July, the new rules will allow stronger penalties for consultants who break the rules. The government will also improve investigations, increase transparency, and expand support for victims of fraud.
