Canadian fatally shot at Mexico’s historic Teotihuacán pyramids

A 32-year-old Canadian woman has been killed and 13 others injured after a gunman opened fire at the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacán, Mexican officials say. The attacker, identified as Julio César Jasso Ramírez, later took his own life.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed sympathy for the victims and ordered an investigation. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also offered condolences and said Canada is working with Mexican authorities.

Witnesses described panic as people ran for safety during the shooting. Some said there was confusion and no clear evacuation at the busy tourist site.

Teotihuacán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Mexico’s most popular attractions. Officials say incidents like this involving tourists are rare.
