Fire Hazard Prompts Recall of Hundreds of Vehicles Across Canada

More than 800 vehicles have been recalled in Canada because of a fire risk, officials say.

According to Transport Canada, a problem inside the high-voltage battery could cause it to overheat and short circuit. This could start a fire, even if the vehicle is parked and turned off.

The recall affects 837 2022 and 2023 EQB models made by Mercedes-Benz. Earlier repairs may not have fixed the issue, so a new repair is needed.

Owners are advised to limit charging to 80 per cent and park outside, away from buildings and other vehicles, until the battery is replaced. Mercedes-Benz will contact owners by mail with instructions.
