More than 1,000 vehicles are being recalled in Canada because of a possible problem with the brake pedal, according to officials.

Transport Canada says that in some vehicles, the brake pedal could fail while the driver is braking. If that happens, the brakes would not work, which increases the risk of a crash.

The recall affects 2024 Dodge Hornet and 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale vehicles made by Fiat Chrysler. A total of 1,068 vehicles are affected across Canada.

Officials say this recall expands on an earlier one.

Fiat Chrysler will contact vehicle owners by mail and ask them to bring their SUV to a dealership. At the dealership, technicians will reinforce the brake pedal arm to fix the problem.
