Ottawa’s annual Pride parade was cancelled on Sunday after being stopped by pro-Palestinian protesters.
The group Queers for Palestine – Ottawa held a rally during the parade.
Last year, some politicians and groups refused to join Pride after Capital Pride released a statement supporting Palestinians. That statement has since been removed from the group’s website.
A video posted online shows a protester asking Capital Pride to once again show support for Palestinians and calling on politicians who boycotted last year’s parade to apologize.
Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, who was at the parade, said it was “deeply regrettable” that protesters chose to block the event.
Capital Pride announced the cancellation shortly before 3 p.m. The parade had been planned to pass by Parliament Hill.
