The Beer Store Announces Additional Closures Across Ontario — Dates and Locations Revealed

The Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch of British Columbia has imposed a $7,000 fine on a restaurant in Abbotsford for serving beer to a minor.

The Beer Store to Shutter 11 More Ontario Locations, Including Multiple in the GTA

The Beer Store has announced it will permanently close 11 more locations across Ontario by July 6, including two in Toronto. The closures are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to modernize its operations amid shifting consumer trends and regulatory changes.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the retailer confirmed that Toronto stores at 609 Roehampton Avenue and 1580 Avenue Road will close. Additionally, three other stores in the Greater Toronto Area are slated to shut down: two in Oakville (104 Lakeshore Road West and 1011 Upper Middle Road) and one in Richmond Hill (13469 Yonge Street).

Other affected locations include:

  • 14800 Yonge Street, Aurora

  • 6716 Hwy #35, Coboconk

  • 690 Berford Street, Wiarton

  • 790 Goyeau Street, Windsor

  • 1780 College Avenue, Windsor

These closures follow earlier announcements. In April, the company revealed that four stores — including two in Toronto — would close by June 15. In March, it confirmed five more store closures across southern and northern Ontario. With the latest update, nearly 20 Beer Store locations will be shut down by July 6.

“The Beer Store is modernizing operations to meet the needs of the marketplace—this means making the difficult decision to close some stores,” said Ozzie Ahmed, Vice President of Retail. “We know this will be disappointing to many customers and our valued employees.”

Ahmed added that the decisions are driven by long-term business sustainability goals. While the company has not confirmed how many employees will be affected, it’s unclear whether staff will be relocated to other locations.

These closures come as the Ontario government continues to expand alcohol sales to convenience stores, allowing residents to buy ready-to-drink beverages, beer, and wine outside of traditional retailers.

Despite the closures, The Beer Store says customers can still return empty containers at alternative store locations or designated return centers. Starting January 1, 2026, all grocers selling alcohol will be required to accept returns.
