Oblivion Remastered Surpasses 4 Million Players, Ignites RPG Boom in April
First reported by Eurogamer, Bethesda is celebrating a major milestone for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, announcing that over four million players have ventured back into Cyrodiil within the game’s first week. The news, shared via a post on X (formerly Twitter), reads:
“We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. Thank you!”
Launched alongside Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8, Oblivion Remastered has helped turn an otherwise quiet April into a huge month for RPG fans. While Xbox Game Pass availability means the player count doesn’t directly translate to full-price sales, the figures still reflect stunning success for the remaster.
Despite its presence on PC Game Pass, Oblivion Remastered has also performed exceptionally well on Steam. At the time of writing, it ranks fourth in concurrent player counts with nearly 200,000 players and holds the number one spot on Steam’s top sellers list, while placing second on SteamDB’s best-selling tracker.
Both Steam and SteamDB rank games based on total revenue over set periods—24 hours for Steam’s official charts, with extra emphasis on more recent sales, and a slightly different weighting system for SteamDB. This revenue-based ranking explains why games like Counter-Strike 2 and hardware like the Steam Deck continue to dominate. Nevertheless, Oblivion Remastered‘s early success paints a strong picture of its broad appeal across multiple platforms.
