Gas Prices Set to Drop Across Canada Tomorrow — But Not for Long

Gas Prices Are Dropping Across Canada Tomorrow — But the Relief Might Be Brief

If you’ve been putting off a trip to the pump, Saturday might be the right time to fill up. Gas prices are expected to drop across much of Canada tomorrow, with notable dips in cities like Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Ottawa.

Thanks to the recent removal of the federal carbon tax, many provinces have already seen slight price relief — and now, another dip is on the way.

According to Gas Wizard, nearly every major city will see lower prices on April 12, including regular, premium, and diesel fuel. In Toronto, regular gas is forecast to fall by 4 cents to 126.9 cents per litre. Calgary and Edmonton are expected to match that drop, while Vancouver is looking at a 7-cent decrease, and Victoria leads with an 8-cent dip.

Here’s a snapshot of tomorrow’s predicted average prices for regular gas:

  • Toronto: 126.9 c/L (↓ 4¢)

  • Ottawa: 119.9 c/L (↓ 4¢)

  • Calgary: 128.9 c/L (↓ 4¢)

  • Edmonton: 126.9 c/L (↓ 4¢)

  • Vancouver: 157.9 c/L (↓ 7¢)

  • Victoria: 154.9 c/L (↓ 8¢)

  • Montreal: 154.9 c/L (↓ 4¢)

  • Quebec City: 144.9 c/L (↓ 4¢)

  • Winnipeg: 119.9 c/L (↓ 2¢)

  • Saskatoon: 128.9 c/L (↓ 3¢)

Some East Coast cities — including Halifax, Moncton, and St. John’s — are expected to see no change, but at least prices aren’t rising there either.

What’s Behind the Drop?
The decline is largely due to the federal carbon tax being scrapped on April 1, which previously added 17.6 cents per litre. This, combined with a seasonal dip in demand, has helped drive prices down — for now.

Don’t Expect It to Last
Experts warn this dip could be short-lived. Stations are transitioning to more expensive summer-blend fuel, which often increases costs by 5–6 cents per litre. A weaker Canadian dollar or changes in global oil markets could also reverse this short-term trend.

Bottom Line
If you’ve got room in your tank, Saturday is a good day to fill up. Just don’t wait too long — this window of savings may close as quickly as it opened.
