Fido Removes Hotspot Access from New Mobile Plans Unless You Pay Extra
Rogers-owned Fido has made changes to its mobile data offerings, removing mobile hotspot access from some of its plans unless customers pay an additional fee.
One of the main promotions currently featured is a 60GB plan priced at $44 per month (after a $10 autopay discount). However, this plan does not include mobile hotspot access — a feature that is typically standard in similar plans from competing carriers. This exclusion makes the offer less appealing, and it’s enough for us to caution potential customers to consider other options for the time being.
While other carriers have made similar moves in the past, they often reintroduce hotspot access after some time. As of now, Fido charges an additional $5 per month for customers who wish to enable hotspot usage on the new plan. It’s worth noting that existing Fido subscribers are not affected by this change and can continue using their hotspot as usual.
For those in the market for a more comprehensive plan, better options are currently available from Koodo, Freedom Mobile, and Public Mobile. In particular, Freedom and Public often include complimentary U.S. or Mexico data access, making them strong choices for frequent travelers in North America.
