Alcohol Prices Rise Following Federal Tax Increase

If you’re planning a trip to the liquor store today, you might want to bring some extra change. As of Sunday, the cost of most alcoholic beverages has gone up.

A case of domestic beer saw an increase of more than 25 cents, now priced at approximately $33.51 per dozen. Imported beer rose even more sharply, with nearly 40 cents added to the cost of a 12-pack.

Prices for certain wines and spirits have also gone up, depending on the type and size. For example, a 26 oz bottle of vodka is now nearly 60 cents more expensive.

These price hikes follow a federal alcohol tax increase of nearly two percent that took effect last week, impacting most items on liquor store shelves.
