Thousands of Coolers Recalled in Canada Due to Amputation Risk
Thousands of Coolers Recalled in Canada Over Amputation and Crushing Hazards
Health Canada has issued a recall for thousands of coolers sold across Canada due to risks of fingertip amputation and crushing injuries.
The recall, announced on February 13 in collaboration with U.S. company Igloo Products Corp. and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), affects the Igloo 90-Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers.
“The tow handle of the coolers can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” the agency stated.
As of February 3, 2025, no injuries have been reported in Canada. However, in the U.S., 12 cases of fingertip injuries have been documented, including amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.
A complete list of the 46 recalled models is available on Health Canada’s website. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and not sell, give away, or redistribute the recalled item.
The affected coolers were sold between May 2019 and February 2025, with approximately 47,000 units sold in Canada, over 1 million in the U.S., and 23,000 in Mexico. Models included in the recall were manufactured before January 2024.
To check if their cooler is affected, consumers can inspect the date code imprinted on the bottom, which features a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the manufacturing month and the year inside the circle.
As a solution, Igloo is providing free replacement handles. Consumers can contact the company for more information by:
