The Canada Post strike, involving more than 55,000 workers, has now entered its 25th day.
In a statement released Sunday, Canada Post announced it is awaiting a formal response from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) regarding the proposal submitted on Friday.
The union, in its Friday statement, said it is reviewing the proposal and raised concerns about when the mediation process will officially resume. CUPW reaffirmed its commitment to returning to the bargaining table.
The strike, which began on November 14, saw federal mediation suspended nearly two weeks ago due to significant differences between the two sides.
Meanwhile, calls for government intervention have been growing within the business community. However, the federal government has stated it is not stepping in at this time.
In other recent labor disputes, such as those involving Canadian ports, the federal government invoked a controversial legal provision to direct the labor board to impose binding arbitration.
