Jason Momoa to Portray Lobo in DC’s ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

Los Angeles — Hollywood star Jason Momoa is stepping into a new role in the DC Universe, taking on the character of alien bounty hunter Lobo in the upcoming movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Momoa, known for his portrayal of Aquaman in four films from the former DC Extended Universe, officially confirmed the casting via an Instagram post, fulfilling a long-standing wish to play the fan-favorite anti-hero.

“I’ve always wanted to play Lobo,” Momoa shared, referencing his lifelong love of the comic character. “It’s the perfect role, and it’s a dream come true.”

The film will star House of the Dragon actor Milly Alcock in the titular role of Supergirl, focusing on Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. Other cast members include Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle.

Lobo, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. The character is infamous for his over-the-top, violent, and irreverent persona. A bounty hunter from the alien planet Czarnia, Lobo is the last of his kind—by his own doing, having wiped out his entire race for fun.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will serve as the second installment in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, following the highly anticipated Superman: Legacy, starring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Momoa previously led the Aquaman franchise under the former DC leadership, making his debut with a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He later starred in Justice League and headlined Aquaman. However, his latest film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023), faced significant box office challenges.

With this new casting, Momoa transitions into a fresh chapter within the DC Universe, bringing his trademark charisma to the role of Lobo. Fans are eagerly anticipating his debut as the iconic anti-hero.
