CFIA Expands Carrot Recall Over E. Coli O121 Contamination Risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced an expanded recall of carrots due to potential contamination with E. coli O121, according to a notice issued on Friday.

The recall includes specific 365 Whole Foods Market brand carrots sold in British Columbia and Ontario within the following timeframes:

  • Organic Carrots (454 g): All products sold between Aug. 14–Oct. 23 (UPC: 0 99482 46571 1)

Consumers are advised to avoid eating, serving, selling, or distributing these products. The CFIA recommends disposing of the items or returning them to the original place of purchase. Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the affected products should seek medical attention.

The CFIA warns that E. coli-contaminated food may not appear spoiled but can cause severe illness, including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and blood in the stool. In extreme cases, symptoms can escalate to seizures, strokes, kidney damage, or even death.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in Canada related to the recalled products. This announcement follows an earlier recall on Nov. 18 for other carrot brands.
