RCMP Investigate After Child Discovers ‘Small Razor Blade’ in Halloween Candy in Kamloops, B.C.

Police in Kamloops, B.C., are urging parents and guardians to inspect their children’s Halloween candy closely after a report of a mother finding a razor blade embedded in her daughter’s treat.

Kamloops RCMP released a photo showing a partially opened pink Starburst with a piece of metal visibly protruding from one side.

According to the detachment’s news release on Friday, the mother reported that her daughter had been trick-or-treating in the Brock area the previous night. The following day, the child noticed a piece of candy in her bag that was partially unwrapped with a small razor blade sticking out. She immediately informed her mother, who then contacted police.

Police say they do not know which home in the neighborhood the candy came from and noted that no other similar reports have been filed.

While reports of candy tampering appear almost every Halloween, CTV News found no record of children being injured by tampered candy in Canada.

Authorities remind parents to examine Halloween treats for any open or torn packaging and advise against consuming homemade treats from unknown sources. When in doubt, throw it out.
