Canadian Yahoo and Rogers Customers Could Qualify for $375 Settlement

Canadian residents with Yahoo or Rogers accounts from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2016, may be eligible to receive up to $375 from a data breach settlement, according to Charney Lawyers. This settlement applies to customers who did not opt out of the class action and is part of a $20 million settlement with Yahoo! Inc. and Yahoo! Canada Co.

The breaches, which exposed data from about five million Canadian accounts, included sensitive information such as names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, and passwords. The earliest breach occurred in August 2013, but Yahoo did not become aware of it until 2016. A subsequent hack in late 2014 compromised around 500 million accounts, but Yahoo did not disclose the breach until September 2016.

Eligible Yahoo and Rogers users in Canada can claim up to $125 per breach, totaling up to $375, or opt for one year of credit monitoring. Reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses up to $25,000 is also available, along with a 25% refund for costs incurred on paid Yahoo services like ad-free or premium email.

Claimants must act before the December 27 deadline. For more details, visit Charney Lawyers’ website or call 1-866-808-8075.
