Cards Against Humanity Files $15M Lawsuit Against SpaceX, Alleging Illegal Trespassing by Elon Musk’s Company
The creator of the popular party game Cards Against Humanity is suing SpaceX for $15 million, alleging that Elon Musk’s company trespassed and damaged a plot of land it owns.
According to the lawsuit filed in Texas, SpaceX has treated the land, owned by Cards Against Humanity (CAH), as its own for at least six months. The company purchased the land in Cameron County in 2017 as part of a campaign to prevent former President Donald Trump from constructing a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
The purchase was made possible by 150,000 subscribers who contributed $15 each to the Cards Against Humanity Saves America campaign. The lawsuit states that CAH acquired the property with the intent of preserving it and accuses SpaceX of abusing the land, destroying its natural state, and damaging CAH’s relationship with its supporters.
In a statement released through their Saves America campaign, CAH claimed that SpaceX had “fed” the land, and alleged that Musk thought he could “dump his s” on their property without permission. The company also claimed that SpaceX gave them a 12-hour ultimatum to accept an offer for less than half the land’s value, which they declined before filing the lawsuit.
On a website titled elonowesyou100dollars, CAH is seeking $15 million in damages and has promised to give the original campaign subscribers $100 if they win the case.
The lawsuit also references a Reuters report criticizing SpaceX’s rapid development in South Texas, where locals have expressed concerns about the company’s unchecked property dealings. SpaceX began operations in Texas in 2003, and Musk has recently indicated plans to relocate more of his businesses to the state.
Neither SpaceX nor Musk have publicly commented on the matter.
