Apple could be phasing out the traditional USB-A ports in the upcoming Mac mini model.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Mac mini will be the next Apple device to part ways with USB-A ports.

Apple users have grown accustomed to the familiar, rectangular USB-A ports being replaced by their slimmer USB-C counterparts. While USB-C offers several benefits, the shift can often leave users needing adapters and feeling confused.

The Mac mini, which hasn’t seen a major redesign since 2010, is set for a significant update this fall, according to Gurman. The refreshed models will feature Apple’s new M4 chip, along with five USB-C ports, an Ethernet port, an HDMI connector, and a headphone jack—but the USB-A ports will be absent.

Apple’s “Glowtime” press event is scheduled for September 9, where the company is expected to unveil the new iPhone 16. The announcement of the new Mac lineup may follow later in the fall.
