Health Canada Issues Recall for Certain Contact Lenses Due to Quality Concerns.

Some contact lenses are being recalled by Health Canada due to what the agency describes as an “isolated quality issue.”

Alcon, the company that manufactures the affected lenses, discovered a problem with a solvent supplied by a third-party vendor. This solvent contained an “unexpected long-chain hydrocarbon substance,” which was found in the finished contact lenses.

“As a result, the identified lots may not meet Alcon’s performance standards for the entirety of their shelf life,” the recall notice states.

The affected products include Dailies Total1 one-day contact lenses for astigmatism, Delefilcon A multifocal soft contact lenses, and Total30 (Lehfilcon A) soft contact lenses.

Customers are advised to contact the manufacturer to check if their product is part of the recall. Canadians can also visit the recall website to find model numbers.

The recall began on August 13.
