Google Meet’s recent update features a redesigned user interface and new in-call messaging capabilities.

Google’s Meet app is adding new features aimed at enhancing personal calls. Meet, which integrated Google Duo a few years ago, caters to both professional meetings and casual video calls. The upcoming update, set to roll out over the next few months, emphasizes personal call enhancements, including an updated user interface and in-call messaging, which was previously limited to meetings.

With this update, the call interface will resemble the meeting layout more closely, offering more accessible call controls. In-call messaging will allow you to share links and comments while muted, and emoji reactions will be introduced for group calls. Additional features include stacking effects like backgrounds and filters, and the option to share your screen during calls.

For those who prefer audio-only calls, Google is improving the mobile app’s interface with larger buttons for a more user-friendly experience. Additionally, you’ll soon be able to switch a call seamlessly from your PC to your Android phone or tablet.

This update marks another phase in the gradual integration of Duo and Meet. The new features are being rolled out slowly, and everyone on your call will need to have the updated app to access them. It might take some time before you see these new options in action.
