A passenger plane carrying 61 people crashed outside São Paulo on Friday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of all on board, according to a statement from airline Voepass.

Dramatic footage circulating on social media captured the plane’s descent and its wreckage engulfed in flames on the ground.

All the passengers were confirmed to have Brazilian documents, though it remains unclear if any held dual citizenship.

Flight tracking data reveals that the ATR 72-500, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft, plummeted 17,000 feet in just one minute, but the cause of the rapid descent is still unknown.

Videos on social media show the plane spiraling toward the ground as neighborhood residents shouted in fear. Another clip showed the fiery wreckage after the crash. Fortunately, no one on the ground was injured.

The flight departed from Cascavel, in the Brazilian state of Paraná, and was en route to Guarulhos in São Paulo state when it lost signal shortly before 1:30 p.m. local time (12:30 p.m. ET), according to data from Flightradar24.

The plane began to lose altitude about a minute and a half before the crash. It had been cruising at 17,000 feet until 1:21 p.m. local time when it descended approximately 250 feet in 10 seconds. It then briefly climbed about 400 feet in eight seconds.

Eight seconds later, the plane dropped nearly 2,000 feet. Over the next minute, it experienced a rapid descent, losing roughly 17,000 feet before crashing.

The last data transmission from the plane occurred at 1:22 p.m. local time.
