Province Launches Youth Wellness Hub in Thunder Bay
The Ontario government has launched a new Youth Wellness Hub in Thunder Bay to streamline access to mental health and substance use services for young people. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance support networks across the province, with 10 additional hubs being added to the existing network of 22 since 2020, bringing the total to 32.
Kevin Holland, member of provincial parliament for Thunder Bay – Atikokan, praised the development, emphasizing its significance for the community. Reflecting on collaborative efforts with local agencies, Holland highlighted the hub’s role in addressing gaps in mental health and addiction services.
“This initiative marks the second of three planned initiatives for Thunder Bay,” Holland noted. “It will bridge gaps for youth aged 12 to 25, ensuring continuous support into adulthood and promoting community well-being.”
Diane Walker, CEO of Children’s Centre Thunder Bay, expressed enthusiasm for the hub’s formal launch following a year of preparation and funding acquisition.
“This hub will serve as a vital resource, offering integrated mental health and substance use services under one roof,” Walker explained. “It aims to improve accessibility and ensure a supportive environment for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth, as well as their families.”
Walker commended the community’s dedication, underscoring the hub as a safe haven where youth can receive essential support and families can find assistance.
“The establishment of this Youth Wellness Hub underscores our commitment to enhancing mental health services and fostering a resilient community,” Walker concluded.”
