Thunder Bay Transit Routes to Undergo Detours for Downtown Construction

Commencing this Monday, several Thunder Bay Transit bus routes—namely routes 1, 2, 3M, 11, and 13—will undergo detours to circumvent ongoing road and sewer maintenance in the downtown north core area. The impending closure of the Red River Road and Cumberland Street intersection necessitates these alterations.

Anticipated to conclude later this summer, the city will furnish additional updates upon the intersection’s reopening.

This construction initiative forms a segment of the City’s overarching Reimagining North Core Streetscapes project.

The ongoing construction entails street and sidewalk reconstruction, along with the expansion of patio and vendor areas. Additionally, aging underground infrastructure such as watermains and sanitary sewers will undergo replacement.
