Ottawa and Ontario Finalize $357 Million Housing Agreement

Ontario and Ottawa have announced a deal under the national housing strategy that will release $357 million in federal funding for the province.

This agreement follows months of negotiations between the two levels of government regarding Ontario’s affordable housing targets.

Previously, Ottawa had threatened to withhold some affordable housing funds from Ontario, citing unmet targets and an inadequate action plan. The federal government had considered bypassing the province to distribute the funds directly to municipalities.

Ontario, however, contended that the federal government was not accurately accounting for its progress.

A joint statement issued on Tuesday morning reveals that the deal includes a revised action plan from Ontario, which provides more detailed data and insights on housing projects that have benefited from provincial investment.
