Frito-Lay Canada Initiates Voluntary Recall of Select Best-Selling Snacks Over Salmonella Contamination Concerns

Frito-Lay Canada has taken a voluntary step to recall certain beloved snacks due to potential contamination of an ingredient with salmonella.

Affected products include all variants of SunChips Harvest Cheddar Whole Grain Snacks bearing best by dates ranging from June 18 to August 22, 2024. Additionally, the recall extends to Munchies Original Snack Mix products with best by dates spanning from July 16 to September 10, 2024.

The company is advising consumers to ‘inspect their pantries for any of the mentioned products and discard them.’ Frito-Lay clarified in a statement that none of the other SunChips flavors were affected by the recall.

According to the company, a seasoning supplier notified them of a potential salmonella contamination in an ingredient sourced from a third party. Although no salmonella was detected in the seasoning received by Frito-Lay, the company opted to recall specific products as a precautionary measure.

Frito-Lay has issued a detailed list, available below, containing additional information about the recalled snacks for consumer reference.

Salmonella symptoms vary widely, as outlined by Health Canada. While some individuals may remain asymptomatic, others may start experiencing symptoms within six to 72 hours of exposure. Common symptoms encompass chills, fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and sudden headaches. These symptoms typically persist for four to seven days.
