Thousands Remain Without Electricity Following Snowstorm
After Severe Snowstorm, 48,854 Customers Left Without Power in Quebec
As of 7:45 a.m. Friday, Hydro-Quebec reports significant power outages, particularly in the Laurentians (16,793), Outaouais (10,813), and the Montérégie (6,989) regions.
Hydro-Quebec attributes the outages to downed power lines caused by strong winds and fallen tree branches. All available crews are being mobilized to expedite service restoration.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, snowfall amounts have exceeded 20 centimeters near Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and surpassed 30 centimeters in downtown Montreal.
During the peak of the outages, Hydro-Quebec reports that 600,000 customers were impacted.
The public utility company has deployed approximately 1,200 personnel to address the power restoration efforts.
As warmer weather is forecasted in the coming days, the snow is anticipated to begin melting soon.
“For public safety, it is crucial that people not approach power lines,” the Crown corporation stresses. “If you see electrical wires on the ground, please do not approach the area and call 911 to have the area secured.”
