Cineplex Removes South Indian Film After GTA Movie Theatre Drive-By Shootings

TORONTO – Cineplex has decided to halt screenings of a South Indian film in response to four drive-by shootings that took place at theaters across the Greater Toronto Area on its premiere day.

Michelle Saba, a spokesperson for Cineplex, cited circumstances beyond their control as the reason for pulling the action film “Malaikottai Vaaliban.”

Saba mentioned that Cineplex is in close collaboration with local authorities who are spearheading an investigation into the incidents at their theaters.

According to York Regional Police, they received a call to a theater in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Jan. 24 after an employee discovered that the windows had been shot at.

On the same day, police were called to similar incidents at theaters in Vaughan, Scarborough, and Brampton. Police stated that all incidents occurred during the early morning hours, with no reported injuries.

Lisa Moskaluk, spokesperson for the York Regional Police, states that investigators suspect a connection between the incidents, attributing them to targeted actions based on observed similarities.
