Shaw Announces Incremental Monthly Price Increase of Up to $4 for Internet and TV Services; Rogers Responds with Rate Hike.

According to iPhone in Canada’s findings, commencing January 10th, Shaw is set to raise its internet prices by $4 per month, while TV and home phone services will see a $3 per month increase.

Customers currently benefiting from active discounts or fixed rates with Shaw will continue to enjoy those rates until their expiration. Additionally, the price hikes will not affect those subscribed to two-year ValuePlans, ensuring that customers under existing agreements will not experience an increase in fees.

These adjustments mark the latest in a series of rate increases by Rogers, which recently raised wireless rates and prices for Ignite bundles, along with adjustments for Fido customers. Bell is also following suit by increasing wireless rates.

The backdrop for these changes is the $26 billion acquisition of Shaw by Rogers last year. Despite Rogers claiming that the merger would foster competition and reduce prices for Canadians, critics foresaw the potential for higher costs. The Competition Bureau attempted to prevent the merger, but the Competition Tribunal ultimately ruled that it would not lead to increased prices.

Price hikes specifically affect residential customers without contractual agreements.
