Two instances of Salmonella associated with cantaloupes verified in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Two individuals in this region are among the 129 officially confirmed instances of salmonella linked to cantaloupes of the Malichita or Rudy brand.
As of December 7, reported cases of the illness span across BC, Ontario, Quebec, PEI, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The outbreak has resulted in five fatalities and 44 additional hospitalizations.
Approximately one-third of the infected individuals are children aged five and below, while nearly half are seniors aged 65 and above.
In November, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued several recall advisories for Malichita and Rudy brand cantaloupes sold between October 10 and November 24.
