Jonathan Majors released from Marvel following domestic assault conviction.

Marvel Studios has severed ties with Emmy-nominated actor Jonathan Majors in the wake of his conviction for assaulting his former girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari. A New York jury determined that Majors, 34, had attacked and harassed Jabbari during a dispute in March. In response to the verdict, a spokesperson for Marvel announced the studio’s decision to discontinue collaboration with the actor. Majors is set to be sentenced in February and could potentially face up to a year in prison. This development marks a significant downfall for the prominent Hollywood actor, who was anticipated to play key roles in multiple Marvel films.

Portraying the antagonist Kang the Conqueror in Marvel films, Majors featured in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania last February and played a significant role in the Disney+ series Loki, now in its second season. The release dates for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, where he was slated to take on the lead role, had already been postponed by Marvel. Additionally, Majors was expected to reprise his character in the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.

The studio’s response to Majors’ departure remains uncertain, leaving questions about whether Marvel Studios intends to find a replacement for the actor or alter the storyline to exclude his character from the upcoming films.

Following a dispute in a hired car in New York City, Mr. Majors’ ex-girlfriend, Ms. Jabbari, sustained injuries including a fractured finger, bruising, and a cut behind her ear. The altercation ensued when Ms. Jabbari discovered a text message on Majors’ phone from another woman, which read; “Wish I was kissing you right now.”

In an attempt to retrieve his phone, the actor seized his then-girlfriend, forcibly twisted her arm behind her back, and struck her in the head, as testified by Ms. Jabbari. He has been convicted of recklessly causing physical injury and harassment. Nevertheless, the jury acquitted him of charges related to aggravated harassment and assault with the intent to cause physical harm.

The sentencing is scheduled for February 6. Additionally, the judge issued a fresh protection order mandating that he maintain no contact with Ms. Jabbari.
