Global Affairs has verified eight Canadian fatality since the commencement of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Global Affairs Canada has reported the eighth Canadian citizen’s demise in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The department confirmed the death in Lebanon but provided no additional details in a Sunday evening update. Furthermore, it disclosed that 130 Canadians exited Gaza through the Rafah crossing on the Egypt border after its reopening to foreign nationals over the weekend.

In the initial Hamas-led attack in Israel on October 7, seven Canadians and one individual with strong connections to Canada lost their lives, contributing to approximately 1,200 casualties, predominantly civilians.

Global Affairs has not yet identified one Canadian who remains missing. The Israeli military announced on Sunday that its ground offensive had extended to all parts of Gaza, with additional evacuation orders issued for areas in and around the second-largest city in the region, Kahn Younis.

Intense bombardments were documented overnight and continued into Sunday in Khan Younis and Rafah. Israel asserts that numerous Hamas leaders are believed to be hiding in Rafah itself.

Israel pledged that its actions in southern Gaza would match the intensity of its assaults in the northern region. A significant portion of the territory’s 2.3 million inhabitants has concentrated in the south, following Israeli forces’ directives for civilians to evacuate the north during the initial stages of the two-month-long conflict.
