The founder of McDonald’s Canada passed away at the age of 86.

George Cohon, the founder of McDonald’s Canada as stated by Ronald McDonald House Charities, has passed away.

Born in Chicago in 1937, Cohon earned degrees from Drake University and Northwestern University School of Law before making his way to Canada. In November 1968, he inaugurated his initial McDonald’s establishment in London, Ontario.

Beyond his role in McDonald’s, Cohon was the visionary behind the establishment of Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities throughout the nation. In recognition of his extensive charitable endeavors globally, he was honored with the Companion of the Order of Canada in 2020, the highest rank within the order, as reported by Ronald McDonald House.

At the time of his passing, Cohon was 86 years old.
