A second instance of gunfire occurred overnight at a Jewish school in Montreal this week.
Montreal police are currently investigating another incident of gunfire at a Jewish school in the city’s west end. This marks the second occurrence within the week. Reports indicate that several calls were made to the police about gunshots near Yeshiva Gedola of Montreal on Deacon Road in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood around 5 a.m. on Sunday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered bullet impact marks on the school building and shell casings on the ground in close proximity. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), mentioned that witnesses observed a vehicle fleeing the scene at the time of the gunfire.
As of now, there have been no arrests made.
Dubuc mentioned that the police are unable to confirm whether there were individuals inside the building during the incident.
In light of the ongoing investigation, a security perimeter has been established.
Mayer Feig, a member of the Council of Hasidic Jews of Quebec, asserts that these school shootings are intended to intimidate the Jewish community in the city.
“They want to put fear into the community,” said Feig.
“These things have to stop. This has no place here in Quebec, in Canada or Montreal, it’s not who we are. There’s a conflict going on thousands of miles away, don’t bring it here.“
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante expressed her condemnation of the shooting on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday morning, referring to the incident as “despicable.”
“We will not allow Montreal to be the scene of such acts,” she wrote. “We must fight antisemitism. All Montrealers have the right to feel safe.“
