Twitter requires users to be signed in to view the Site.

Twitter seems to have implemented restrictions on accessing its platform for users who are not logged into an account.

Previously, individuals without a Twitter account or those who were not logged in could freely browse the platform’s homepage and explore public accounts and tweets.

However, starting this week, such users are presented with a screen that urges them to either sign up for a new account or log in to their existing Twitter account.

Towards the end of this week, internet users started to observe the alteration, and by Friday, several CNN reporters experienced the inability to access Twitter without first logging into their accounts.

At present, it remains unclear whether the recent modification was an intentional policy update or a technical glitch, both of which have been frequently observed on Twitter since Elon Musk assumed control of the platform. Despite a request for comment, Twitter has not provided a response.

This development coincides with the efforts of billionaire owner Elon Musk to revitalize Twitter’s operations, which have faced numerous difficulties since his acquisition in late last year. Now, with the assistance of newly appointed CEO Linda Yaccarino, they aim to bring about significant changes.

In an attempt to address concerns surrounding escalated hate speech, layoffs, and uncertainties regarding the company’s trajectory, the leadership at Twitter is actively encouraging advertisers to resume their presence on the platform.

Elon Musk has also taken steps to boost subscription revenue by introducing a blue verification checkmark exclusively for users who subscribe to the Twitter Blue service. This strategic move aims to attract more users to opt for the premium offering.

The limitation on public access to Twitter may be a deliberate endeavor to expand the platform’s user base, which has historically been notably smaller compared to social media competitors such as Facebook and Instagram.

By implementing this restriction, Twitter aims to encourage more individuals to create accounts and actively engage with the platform, potentially narrowing the gap with its larger counterparts.
