Apple has recognized the presence of a bug in Screen Time and pledges to implement additional enhancements.
Apple has officially recognized a bug affecting its parental controls feature, Screen Time, on the iPhone and iPad. The company has assured its users that it is committed to implementing further measures to resolve the issue.
Screen Time offers parents the ability to remotely manage their child’s device, enabling them to regulate device usage during specific times, impose time limits on apps, and block unsuitable content. Nonetheless, certain parents have expressed concerns about Screen Time settings occasionally resetting or not syncing properly across all devices within a Family Sharing group.
“We are aware that some users may be experiencing an issue where Screen Time settings are unexpectedly reset,” an Apple spokesperson said, in a statement shared with The Wall Street Journal. “We take these reports very seriously and we have been, and will continue, making updates to improve the situation.”
Apple addressed the problem of Screen Time settings not persisting with the release of iOS 16.5 in May. However, according to the report, certain parents are still encountering the same issue on devices that have been updated to iOS 16.6 and the iOS 17 public beta. The timeline for Apple’s forthcoming enhancements to Screen Time remains uncertain.
Introduced in 2018 as part of iOS 12, Screen Time offered parents an integrated solution for controlling their children’s devices, replacing the need for third-party apps that previously fulfilled such functions.
