Canada has redesigned its passport and will introduce online renewal services this year

The Canadian federal government has revealed a new passport design that has taken a decade to develop, and soon Canadians will have the convenience of renewing their passports online. The redesigned passport was showcased by Immigration Minister Sean Fraser and Social Development Minister Karina Gould at the Ottawa International Airport on Wednesday. The new passport features updated artwork and enhanced security features covering every page, according to Fraser.

We still have existing stock of the previous generation and so we don’t need everybody rushing out to go get this new passport,” she said.

This fall, Canadians will have the option to apply for their passport renewal online.

The new cover design with an outline of a maple leaf, the inside pages feature artwork highlighting Canada’s diverse people, landscapes, wildlife and four seasons that only appear in ultraviolet light.

The passport’s interior now includes a visible chip and antenna that aids in verifying the passport’s authenticity and safeguarding its information.

Furthermore, the updated passport has several other enhancements, such as a kinegram above the primary photo that changes hues and appears to move from different perspectives.
