Fastest plane in the world
The fastest plane in the world is the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, which holds the official airspeed record for a manned air-breathing jet aircraft. The SR-71 was capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach 3.3 (2,193 mph; 3,529 km/h) at an altitude of around 85,000 feet (25,900 meters). It was developed by the United States Air Force and operated by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from 1964 to 1998. The SR-71 was primarily used for reconnaissance missions and was designed to evade radar detection and surface-to-air missiles. Although no longer in active service, the SR-71 remains an iconic aircraft and a testament to human engineering and technological innovation.
